Floating swim platforms are back in place for the summer, giving Santa Barbara County beachgoers a fun spot to swim and gather along the South Coast.

Anchored offshore near Carpinteria State Beach and the Rosewood Miramar Beach resort in Montecito, the seasonal platforms are open to the public and, according to city and resort officials, remain in place through Labor Day.

In Carpinteria, two platforms were installed offshore near Holly and Elm avenues, about 150 to 200 yards out and roughly 100 yards apart within the swim zone, according to city Public Information Officer Juliza Briones.

In a newsletter, the city of Carpinteria described the swim out as a cherished local tradition but reminded swimmers that the platforms are farther out than they appear, and swimmers should use them at their own risk.

Briones said lifeguards are on duty at Ash, Linden and Holly avenue towers seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Labor Day.

Off Miramar Beach in Montecito, a public-access swim platform has been installed about 75 yards from shore and is accessible from the Eucalyptus Lane beach access, a short walk down the beach.

Owned and operated by the Rosewood Miramar Beach hotel, the raft was first launched in 2024, now marking its second summer offshore. The raft features a floating line in the water to help guide swimmers and is equipped with a ladder for climbing aboard.

A lifeguard is on duty daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the beach in front of the hotel.

The county also recently approved two platforms for Coral Casino LLC, part of Ty Warner Hotels & Resorts, at Butterfly Beach. The platforms will be owned, operated and maintained for public use by Coral Casino LLC, according to the agreement.

As of last week, the platforms did not appear to be in place.
