A teenage boy was arrested late Sunday night in connection with two carjackings that occurred in January, according to the Santa Maria Police Department.

The teen was arrested after detectives, aided by the department’s SWAT team, served search and arrest warrants at a residence on the 1200 block of West Bethel Lane, Sgt. Daniel Rios said.

The carjackings occurred on Jan. 25 and 30, and investigation led to the 17-year-old, a known gang member, as the primary suspect, Rios said.

His name was not released because he is a minor.

The teen was booked into the Santa Barbara County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of carjacking and vandalism, with a gang enhancement, Rios said.
