One805LIVE! returned to Montecito on Friday with a concert headlined by the legendary Motown group, The Temptations.
For the first time, the annual charity event was split into two nights, with two different lineups at Kevin Costner’s oceanside estate, Field of Dreams.
The Temptations ended the show by playing a medley of their classic songs for a crowd of hundreds. The set included “I Wish It Would Rain,” “Get Ready,” and “My Girl.”
Actor Chris Pratt introduced the band.
The Four Tops performed before the Temptations. The group sang their standards, including “Reach Out, I’ll Be There,” “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch), and “Baby I Need Your Loving.”
Also performing were George Thorogood, Alan Parsons, and Plastic Harpoons. Samantha Ronson DJed for the event.
The annual concert raises money for first responders. One805 was established after the 2018 Montecito debris flow that occurred shortly after the 2017 Thomas Fire.
One805 uses the donations to provide essential equipment, emergency response tools, training resources, and mental-wellness programs for the county’s staff.
Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown took the stage early in the show to thank the crowd and One805 for its support.
Retired Santa Barbara County Fire Chief Mark Hartwig also joined him onstage.
Brown also shared that One805 has created an ongoing endowment fund, which he called a “game changer.”
“It means that no longer is this going to be confined to just year to year trying to see if we can get grants or funding for these amazing and important programs,” Brown said.
“It means that long after our current careers are over, the next generation of protectors will always have their…psychological and emotional support that they need to be healthy as well.”
Hartwig told the crowd that the goal for the endowment fund is $10 million, and it is currently just under $3 million.
“I’ve worked around the state of California. I represented a lot of fire departments,” Hartwig told the crowd.
“There is no community like the community here in Santa Barbara, the greater Santa Barbara community, that supports first responders like you do.”
The event will continue Saturday evening at the same location. Performers will include Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, Slightly Stoopid, Kevin Costner & Modern West, and The High Kings.
