The San Marcos boys tennis team swept Pacifica 18-0 in a Channel League match Tuesday — including a doubles 9-0 doubles sweep without the loss of a single game.
The three singles players lost only six games in their nine sets. No. 1 player Carter Cotich won 6-0, 6-1, 6-0.
Carpinteria 10, Malibu 8
The Carpinteria boys tennis team edged Malibu 10-8 to open up their Citrus Coast League season Tuesday.
No. 1 singles player Max Stone remains undefeated on the season as he swept his three singles sets.
In doubles, Asher Pampel and Troy Zimmerman also swept three sets, “but had to dig deep in their last set to pull out the 6-4 win,” Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant said. “It was a good challenge for them and they rose to the occasion.”
The doubles team of Servando Campuzano and Nolan Martin also swept three sets, two of them by 6-4 wins.
“I was very happy with how they played together,” Bryant said. “They started to communicate a little and understand each others movements.
“We definitely had to scrap and claw to get this team win,” Bryant added.
“Although we pulled out a close overall win, we actually were dead even in games with 69 each. It will make our future two matches interesting, and I am sure both will be a fight to the end.”
Carpinteria is 3-1 overall and now 1-0 in CCL play.
