Question: What is the name and date of your event?
Answer: Green Film Series-Film #1 Broke
Q: What is the mission, goal, and/or theme of this occasion?
A: The Marjorie Luke Theatre is excited to continue our Green Film Series in 2025, presenting thought-provoking films, engaging panel discussions, and inspiring speakers—all centered on pressing environmental issues.
With a focus on California, particularly the Central Coast, this series fosters awareness and dialogue about the challenges and solutions shaping our planet’s future.
Q: Have you held this event before?
A: This is year #2 of our Green Film Series
Q: Tell us some more details about your celebration?

A: Event #1 – Sunday, April 13, 2025 @ 4:00 P.M.
Film: Broke
Filmmaker: Gail Osherenko
Synopsis: Broke tells the story of the Line 901 oil pipeline rupture that spilled 140,000 gallons of crude oil onto the Gaviota Coast in the spring of 2015.
Discussion: A post-screening panel discussion featuring filmmaker Gail Osherenko. Linda Krop, Chief Council at The Environmental Defense Center, Gunnar Langenhuizen, a field representative from State Assemblyman Gregg Hart’s office, and a video representation from Congressman Salud Carbajal.
The panel will be moderated by Greg Helms, Conservation Program Manager for the Ocean Conservancy.
Q: How do people get involved with your event? (volunteer, attend, etc.) – If your event includes ticket sales, please note the price and include a link to purchase tickets.
A: Tickets range in price from $10 for seniors and students to $15 for General Admission. Tickets can be purchase at luketheatre.org or at the door on the day of the event, Sunday, April 13, 4:00 PM.
Q: Is this a fundraising affair? If so, how will the funds raised help your organization?
A: All proceeds help to support our Green Film Series.
Q: Who is sponsoring your event, and why is their support important?
A: We are in the process of securing sponsors. Noozhawk is one of them.
Q: Do you work with an Event Planner? If not, who are the key people who make it all happen?
A: No, for an event planner.
Our Development Director, Kathy Kelley produces this series, and is supported by our Luke staff, Karen Baltzley, Managing Director, Payton Jackson, Technical Director and Lainey Bowler, Theatre Coordinator.

Q: Does your organization have any other upcoming events this year?
A: Yes, we have added two more films to this series. On June 29 we will be showing The Cost of Silence, the story which was filmed secretly over 10 years, by an oil industry insider exposing the devastating consequences of the Deepwater Horizon oil-spill and uncovers a public health disaster.
On October 5, we will be screening a film called Saving the Foothills, which is the story about our community and how it saved our San Marcos Foothills from development, raising 18 million dollars in less than 3 months.
After the screenings all of the films will have interesting and engaging panel discussions with audience Q & A’s.
