Righetti High School’s Drama Department will present the comedic drama “She Kills Monsters,” Oct. 30 and Nov. 1-2 inside the school’s Black Box Theater, room 403 on campus, 941 E. Foster Road, Santa Maria.

Performance times are 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday Nov. 1; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2.

“She Kills Monsters,” by Qui Nguyen, follows Agnes Evans as she processes the death of her younger, geeky sister Tilly by entering her elaborate “Dungeons & Dragons” world.

Through her journey, Agnes comes to understand the sister she never truly knew, learning about Tilly’s struggles with her sexuality, her relationships, and the powerful fantasy refuge she created for herself.

Playing Agnes Evans is Tara Wyers, Righetti junior and RHS Drama Club president.

“Working on this show has expanded my understanding of theatre on a whole other level. Acting is so difficult, but it brings me so much joy and accomplishment,” Wyers said. “Agnes is very different from who I am as a person, which is why I feel so determined to bring her to life in a convincing way.

“It is so much harder than people realize to be something that you’re not, and it honestly was a struggle for me to grasp her as a person. So much time, passion and talent went into this production, and I’m so proud of everything we’ve done.”

“We are so excited to bring some spice to your Hallo-weekend by inviting you back to Righetti’s Black Box Theatre,” said Elesa Carlson, Righetti drama program director, and art and theater teacher.

“It’s always a treat to see our students transform our performance space into new worlds, while offering exceptional up-close acting for our audiences,” Carlson said. “This is a revival play for us, and it has been just as fun this second time around to rejuvenate it and work with such an incredible cast and crew, full of creativity and family love.”

Produced by Righetti High School Drama, “She Kills Monsters” is for audiences ages 14 and older.
