The Nite Moves Summer Sunset Series held its season-opener Wednesday evening at Leadbetter Beach Park, looking forward to a full 16-week season for the first time since 2019.

Offering competition and fun for all levels, including a post-race party, Nite Moves events include a 5k run/walk; 1k kids run; a kids sand run (no charge), 500-meter, 1k and 2k ocean swims and an aquathon (5k run and 1k swim).

Nite Moves has been a Santa Barbara Waterfront tradition going on four decades.

Winners of the 5k were Sebastian Salsbury, 16, Santa Barbara, for the men, who finished in just over 17:39 (times cited here are unofficial). The women’s winner (and second overall) was Yuzki Oey, a New Jersey native who is a Ph.D. student at UCSB, who finished in 18:07.

A full story will be forthcoming later Thursday.
