A perfectly executed game plan Wednesday put Laguna Blanca in the CIF-SS Division 3 semifinals with a 3-1 quarterfinal win over Hillcrest at home, on set scores of 24-26, 25-19, 25-15, 25-20.
The Owls, now 19-4 on the season, host Royal, 20-6, Saturday in a semifinal match.
Thomas Couvillion and Ganden Walker led the Owls in kills, with 16 and 15, respectively. Couvillion added eight digs and three blocks, and Walker seven digs.
“The boys executed the game plan perfectly from start to finish,” Laguna Blanca coach Jason Donnelly said. “Even after dropping a close first game, we stayed composed, stuck to the plan and played really well to earn a trip to the semis.”
Jack Shiebler came up big with 50 assists, 13 digs and two blocks. Freddie Russell added 10 kills and four blocks, and Miles Sedlin 13 digs.
“We played against two elite outside hitters and did a great job keeping them in check. Miles Sedlin played some phenomenal defense and got us going in transition.
“Thomas Couvillion and Ganden Walker took some big swings tonight on the left side and Drew Levinson played really well on the right side.
“It was a great team win.”
