Three Dos Pueblos boys’ wrestlers advanced to the second day of competition at the prestigious California Invitational Tournament (CIT) in Morro Bay after Friday’s results.

The Chargers’ Cody Pearce, at 120 pounds, defeated his final opponent of the day from Chapel Hill in a hard-fought match, 7-3, to advance to Saturday’s final rounds.

“Cody has set the standard for the team, and his competitiveness has been contagious,” Dos Pueblos coach Jesse Plowman said.

At 138 pounds, Ryan Crawford took down his final opponent 8-2. “Crawford proved that he is a takedown specialist by repeatedly taking down his competitors,” Plowman said.

And at 145 pounds, Sammy Ramos muscled his way into Saturday’s competition with a 7-1 victory.

“Sammy wrestled sound fundamental wrestling all day,” Ramos said. “He was able to outlast his opponents and capitalize on their mistakes in the third period.”

The two-day CIT features a mix of top wrestlers from Southern and Central California.

“All our wrestlers wrestled fantastic today,” Plowman said. “CIT is a very tough tournament. Every wrestler here is good, and every match comes down to the wire.

“Our matches today were exciting, and I am looking forward to tomorrow’s competition.”
