UCSB blasted three home runs to account for all its scoring in a 5-1 baseball victory over Xavier to claim the deciding game of the three-game series at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium on Sunday.

After a delayed start due to a rain shower, catcher Aaron Parker started the power surge with a solo shot to right field in the first inning. Center fielder Josh Williams made it 4-0 with a three-run blast in the first following walks to Ivan Brethowr and Broc Mortensen.

First baseman Justin Trimble hit the third homer off Xavier starter Nick Boyle in the second inning for a 5-0 lead.

Xavier (5-7) brought in Luke Bell to pitch and he stymied the Gauchos. He allowed only one hit and struck out five in 5.2 inning.

UCSB was able to hold the lead behind the solid pitching of starter Reed Moring. He went seven innings, allowing no runs, three hits and three walks. He struck out three and earned his second win of the season.

Hudson Barrett pitched a scoreless eighth and started the ninth by hitting Xavier leadoff hitter Matt McCormick. The Gauchos brought in Sam Whiting and he struck out the next two batters before allowing an infield single to Hayden Christiansen. Aedan Anderson followed with a single up the middle to score McCormick and spoil the shutout.

Whiting ended the game by inducing a roundball out.

UCSB had only four hits in the game, but three of  them were home runs.

The Gauchos improve to 7-3 and return to action Tuesday with a home game against Pepperdine at 5:05 p.m.
