Three people were killed early Tuesday in a head-on crash in the Lompoc Valley , according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
Just before 6 a.m., county firefighters, California Highway Patrol officers and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the collision on northbound Highway 1, south of Constellation Road, said fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.
A Kia sedan and a Chevy pickup collided, killing three people in the car, Safechuck said.
The Kia was southbound when the driver allowed the vehicle to drift to the left, into the opposing lanes, and into the path of the northbound pickup, according to CHP Officer Michael Griffith.
The names of those killed were not available pending notification of relatives.
Two people in the truck — driver Isidro Galvez, 52, and passenger Erid Ortega, 19, both of Lompoc — received minor injuries, and were taken to Marian Regional Medical Center by ground ambulance, he added.
Details on their conditions were not available.
Northbound Highway 1 in the area was closed for more than two hours due to the crash and investigation, according to emergency dispatch reports.
Drugs or alcohol do not appear to factors in the collision, Griffith said.
Officers from the California Highway Patrol’s Buellton area were investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the CHP office at 805.688.5551.
