Santa Barbara County could see thunderstorms through Wednesday, per the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said Monday that the chances of thunderstorms “will be increasing between from today through Tuesday or Wednesday.”

Areas of the county closer to the coast — including Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez, Lompoc and Santa Maria — have a 10% chance of thunderstorms. More inland areas have higher chances of seeing thunderstorms, such as Cuyama (20%) and Big Pine Mountain (31%), according to weather service officials.

The highest chance of thunderstorms is Tuesday, with brief heavy rain, guesty winds and fire starts possible.

The county’s southwestern and southeastern coasts will have a coastal flood advisory in effect starting 6 p.m. Monday through midnight on Wednesday.

Minor flooding is possible along the beaches and in normally dry harbor areas, with peak concern between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. each night due to high tides of 7.3 feet to 7.5 feet.

“Flooding of sea water is likely, around the time of high tide, over vulnerable low-lying coastal areas such as parking lots, beaches, and walkways. Significant damage to roads or structures is not expected,” officials said in the advisory.
