The SBCC women’s water polo team showed why it owns the No. 1 seed in the SoCal Regional, jumping out to a 6-0 first quarter lead en route to an 11-4 victory over No. 9 Citrus on Fridday

The Vaqueros improved to 27-6 overall with their fourth straight win. They advance to the semifinals, where they will face No. 4 Long Beach on Saturday. A win would place them in the championship game at 6 p.m.

“Couldn’t have been more proud of my team,” head coach Chuckie Roth said. “The energy and support was incredible. I thought we came up with a lot of head up plays. Chloe McKay was phenomenal in the cage.”

Mckay had six saves. She has helped lead a defense which has held its last four opponents to an average of just 3.25 goals per game.

Sophomore Jenna Olsen led the way with four goals, including two in the opening period. It was the third time she’s had at least four goals in a game this season.

Allison Kay’s lone score midway through the second gave Santa Barbara a 7-0 advantage. Olsen and Megan Ditlof had the only two goals of the third to give SBCC its largest lead of the day, 10-1.
