A segment of Foxen Canyon Road east of Santa Maria was expected to remain closed for several hours on Wednesday after a utility pole toppled onto a tractor-trailer, leaving wires on the vehicle with the driver trapped inside.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and California Highway Patrol were dispatched to a reported electrical hazard on Foxen Canyon Road/Dominion Road on the east side of the Santa Maria Valley, fire spokeswoman Karen Cruz-Orduña said.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, the driver was still inside the vehicle in case the power lines were energized, Cruz-Orduña said.

The driver was checked by paramedics, but was not injured.

A section of Foxen Canyon Road from Dominion Road to a mile east of Dominion Road was expected to remain shut down until the incident was cleared up.

Santa Barbara County Roads Division employees were placing signs in the area to alert drivers about the closure.

A Pacific Gas & Electric Co. crew was on scene and estimated repairs could take most of the  day, according to emergency dispatch reports.
