Santa Barbara High had two event champions at Saturday’s Don Green Invitational track and field meet at Moorpark High.
Anne Knecht won the 800 meters in a personal-best time and anchored the Santa Barbara girls 4×400 relay to third place and a season-best time.

Knecht ran the 800 in 2:21.25, and the relay team clocked a season-best time of 4:19.40. The relay included London Moro, Mackenna Show and Sierra Gronquist.
“Anne has shown a lot of range in our first few meets, with some nice performances in everything from the 400 meters through the 2 mile,” said Santa Barbara coach Olivia Perdices.
Davis Flanagin won the boys long jump at 21-2 and was second in the triple jump at 43-5.5.
“Davis continues to stack up consistently good results. It’s really a testament to the work he does and the competitor he is,” said Perdices.
The Don Green Invite is held at the same facility that hosts the CIF Divisional Finals and the Masters Meet.
“It was good to go to a big meet and let everyone test themselves in some bigger fields. The goal is to get as many athletes as possible back in this stadium in May,” said Perdices
San Marcos
San Marcos girls distance runners performed well at the Don Green Invitational Friday and Saturday at Moorpark High.
The group of Kisla Kaas, Baylie Bingham, Stella Crawford, Shaina King and Melina Vela took third in the 4×800 and second in the distance medley relay.
“These girls are coming off a great cross country season,” said coach Marilyn Hantgin. “This was our first meet of the track season and they are starting off great. An important addition to our distance group is Stella Crawford who played on our tennis team, and has been running extremely well so far.”
Top hurdler Makenzie Fauver started her season with a pair of second-place finishes in the 300 hurdles (47.11) and 100 hurdles (15.78).
Clara Tracewell was fourth in the shot put at 33-7.50.
For the boys, Jared Martinez, Lidetu Ayalew and Brodie Johnson got third, fifth and eighth place in the 300 hurdles.
“It was a long two days for the Royals but the first test to see where we are in our conditioning,” said Hantgin. “Lots of great marks and improvements so far.”
The Royals’ next competition is the Ventura Invitational next Saturday.
Dos Pueblos
At the Don Green Invite, Chris Pagliaro finished seventh in the boys long jump with a leap of 19-5. He went 37-2 in the triple jump.
