San Marcos track & field continued its strong Channel League season with a meet sweep of Pacifica on Wednesday at Warkentin Stadium.

The Royals’ boys cruised to a 90-36 win, while the girls team picked up an 85-36 victory.

San Marcos got another standout performance in the jumps from TJ Deakyne, who won the long jump at 21-6 and came in second in the high jump (6-6) and triple jump (43-5).

“Pacifica has some really great jumpers. TJ held his own today,” San Marcos head coach Marilyn Hantgin said. “Jumping 6-6 again was impressive. TJ isn’t a tall guy, but he is very explosive and has great pop off the ground.”

Logan Hale held down the throws by winning the discus at 125-10 and coming in second on the shot put to his teammate Brody Green, who threw a mark of 42-1.

Logan Patterson Deakyne’s time of 50.65 seconds was good for first in the 400-meter, and the Royals boys swept the 800, 1,600 and 3,200-meter races.

On the girls side, Nashia Darcus was all over the stadium for San Marcos. She won the 200-meter, placed second in the long jump, earned third place in the 100-meter and was a member of the first-place 4×100 relay team alongside Mady Adler, Janelle Capuno and Jaylee Farias.

Samara Shalhoub and Elsie Tuttle placed first in the 1,600-meter and 800-meter races, respectively. Shalhoub also won the 3,200-meter race. Sofi Hernandez finished just behind Tuttle in the 800-meter for second place.

The Royals will send Logan Patterson Deakyne, TJ Deakyne, their boys 4×1,600 relay team and the girls 4×1,600 relay team to the Mt. San Antonio College Relays on Saturday.

Santa Barbara High vs. Rio Mesa/Ventura

The Dons came up on the losing end of a Channel League double dual meet against the Spartans and Cougars on Wednesday in Ventura.

The Santa Barbara High boys 4×100 relay team of Chris Lopez, Roman Hoover, Ben Medina and Jaden Molwane crossed the finish line first in their race. Meanwhile, Hoover won the long jump and Lopez came in third in the 100-meter.

“It’s a coachable group of boys that are really starting to put some things together,” Santa Barbara High head coach Olivia Perdices said of the team.

In the throws, Malachi Johnston and Emmanuel Malpica took first and second, respectively, in the shot put. Johnston also took third in the discus, and Jarrod Shalhoob Conaway placed first in the high jump with a lifetime best mark of 5-10.

“These guys have been working through some things and it’s great to see them putting it together heading into the championship meets,” Perdices said.

As for the girls, Elina Stump won the 400-meter race at 61.76 seconds and placed second in the 200-meter race at 25.99 seconds. Both times were lifetime bests.

Shea Ganon also had a strong individual performance, taking first place in the triple jump at 33-2 and second in the high jump with a lifetime-best mark of 4-10.

“I love how eager [Stump] is to push outside her usual events and get better there,” Perdices said. “Great job by Shea today. It’s her first year in some very technical events and she’s learning and getting more consistent every week.”

Johnston, Stump and the boys 4×800 relay team of Lucca Lowry, Ethan Walp, Noah Davis and Kik Van Engelen will compete in the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday.
