A transient was arrested Sunday after allegedly breaking into several properties on Santa Barbara’s Eastside, according to Santa Barbara police.

Officers were dispatched at about 10:15 p.m. after receiving a 9-1-1 call about a man who appeared to have entered several properties illegally, Sgt. Ethan Ragsdale said.

He said the man also allegedly broke into two vehicles and damaged property around the 800 block of East Ortega Street and the 600 block of North Miplas Street.

“Officers arrived and contacted a subject exiting through a window of a business in the 800 block of East Ortega Street,” Ragsdale said. “The subject attempted to flee from officers but was quickly detained.”

He identified the suspect as 37-year-old Phillip Spencer Vinke.

Vinke was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of commercial burglary, two vehicle burglaries, vehicle tampering and vandalism, Ragsdale said.

His bail was set at $20,000.
