All four of the local ballot measures to increase transient occupancy tax rates were passing in election night results, according to the Santa Barbara County Elections Office.
Visitors staying in hotels and vacation rentals will have to pay more if voters approve the measures from Santa Barbara County, Buellton, Solvang and Carpinteria.
While the county measure would affect only hotels, motels and short-term rentals in unincorporated areas, all county voters had Measure H on their ballots.
The increases require majority voter approval (50% plus one vote) to pass.
If the measures pass, the increased rates would go into effect on Jan. 1. If the measures fail, the rates would stay where they are now (12%).
The county, Buellton and Solvang want to increase the rate from 12% to 14%, and Carpinteria wants to increase the rate from 12% to 15%.
Here are the results as of midnight for each measure, including vote-by-mail ballots and some poll ballots:
County Measure H: passing with 66.5% in favor
Buellton Measure D: passing with 54% in favor
Solvang Measure E: passing with 67.3% in favor
Carpinteria Measure B: passing with 74.9% in favor
The Elections Office will be updating election night results for several hours before releasing semi-official results. Those results will be updated as more ballots are counted in the upcoming days and weeks. The county will certify election results on Dec. 3.
