A tremendous San Marcos girls water polo season came to an end Thursday in a 9-7 loss to Laguna Beach in the first round of the CIF-SS Open Division playoffs.

“We had a hard day shooting the ball unfortunately missed several shots,” Royals coach Chuckie Roth said. “The girls played hard all game long and ran a great comeback in the fourth quarter.”

San Marcos trailed 6-3 heading into the fourth quarter, outscoring Laguna Beach 4-3 in the final frame.

USC-bound Ava Stryker scored six goals in her final game as a Royal.

The Royals finish the season with a 24-8 overall record after a 8-0 run through the Channel League.

“This group is very special, and they are filled with wonderful people who will impact the world in positive ways,” Roth said. “I’m lucky to have coached them.

“Although disappointing in the loss, I’m beyond proud of the women I coach. “We will reflect and learn from this. I will miss my graduating seniors — they are all special.”
