The Cate swim teams swept the Tri-Valley League Championship meet on Saturday at the Ventura Aquatic Center, as both the girls and boys teams ended the day in first place.

Jen Won and Emi Kanda Gleeson each took home two individual championships for the girls team. Won captured the 50 freestyle (25.45) and 100 butterfly (1:00.91), while Kanda-Gleeson won the 200 IM (2:17.65) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.83).

Kanda-Gleeson also teamed up with Tori Kim, Sofia Wang and Makayla Niu to set a new school record time in the 200 medley relay, crossing in 1:54.52.

Won, Niu, Maddi Kollock and Amber Lam took first in the 200 freestyle relay at 1:45.52, and Kanda-Gleeson, Kollock, Kim and Won rounded out the relays with a win in the 400 freestyle relay.

Meanwhile, Wil Rivera was a double individual event winner for the Cate boys after he claimed first in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle in 1:48.99 and 4:51.69, respectively. Josiah Hansen also earned the top spot in the 100 backstroke in 53.58 seconds.

Hansen and Rivera were joined by Devon Liang and Jae Wykoff to take first place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:38.50. The 400 freestyle relay team of Hansen, Rivera, Wykoff and Elliott Paige rounded out the Cate performance with a first-place time of 3:19.72.

The Owls’ seven-person swim team earned a fourth-place team finish at the Tri-Valley League finals on Friday.

While the Owls came in fourth place as a team, the boys squad captured second place in the meet.

Bennett Sullivan and Matthew Sullivan led the charge with a pair of TVL championships apiece. Bennett came out on top in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, while Matthew won the 100 butterfly and 200 IM.

Siobhan Murphy rounded out the individual winners with a first-place performance in the 500 freestyle.

The Owls will now compete in the CIF-SS Prelims next week.

Tierney Clark represented the Cardinals well as the school’s lone swimmer at the league finals on Friday.

Clark won the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.7 seconds and touched second in the 200 freestyle after recording a time of 2:00.25.

She will compete in both events in the CIF-SS Prelims next weekend.
