Three people were injured — two seriously — in a head-on collision early Saturday on Highway 101 near Montecito, according to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.
The drivers of a red Chevy Silverado and a tan Chevy Suburban suffered “moderate to severe injuries,” fire Battalion Chief Jeremy Denton told Noozhawk, and they had to be extricated from the wreckage.
A third person also was injured in the crash, which took place in the southbound lanes at about 2:45 a.m., near the Hot Springs Road offramp.
Highway 101 southbound was closed for about two hours — from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Denton said the pickup ended up on its side and the Suburban was upright, but it was unclear which vehicle either hopped the freeway divider or got onto the highway in the wrong direction.
Firefighters from Montecito also responded to the crash.
The injured were taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Their names and details on their conditions were not available.
