Two new roundabouts on Hollister Avenue on the edge of Old Town Goleta will open to motorists in early March.

The incoming set of traffic circles on Hollister Avenue are being constructed through Project Connect, the city’s largest capital improvement project, according to project staff.

The roundabouts are expected to open March 2.

Before then, the southbound and northbound Highway 217 offramps and onramps at Hollister Avenue will close for construction — from 8 p.m. on Feb. 27 until 6 a.m. on March 2 .

Project Connect staff advise motorists planning to drive through that area during those affected days to plan for additional commute time or to use the alternative routes.

Project Connect focuses on improving pedestrian access and safety and road conditions, building links through Goleta while increasing stormwater flow capacity in San Jose Creek.

The three main areas the project focuses on are Hollister Avenue, Hollister Avenue Bridge and Ekwill Street and Fowler Road.

Just last month, the Goleta City Council identified Project Connect as one of six priority projects to receive funding to ensure completion.
