One driver had to be extricated from the wreckage after a two-vehicle crash that left two people seriously injured in southwest Santa Maria early Sunday.

At approximately 1:15 a.m., personnel from the Santa Maria Police and Fire departments were dispatched to a collision on Skyway Drive at Auto Park Drive, Santa Maria firefighters said.

American Medical Response ambulance personnel also were sent to the scene. 

The crash left one driver trapped in a vehicle and needing extrication, Santa Maria firefighters said.

The two injured patients had moderate to major injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

Santa Maria police officers were investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.

Additional information about the incident was not immediately available.
