Two residents were displaced after a structure fire at a UC Santa Barbara apartment on the 700 block of Elkus Walk, according to County Fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.
No one was home at time of the fire and no injuries were reported, he added.
Responding firefighters found black smoke coming from an upstairs unit of the two-story building at 12:22 p.m., and they were able to extinguish the blaze 20 minutes later, according to Safechuck.
The upstairs unit experienced smoke damage throughout and fire damage in the kitchen. The ground floor unit was mostly damaged from water, according to Safechuck.
The fire happened at UCSB’s West Campus Family Student housing apartment complex which houses 250 students and their families.
Kiki Reyes, media relations manager at UCSB, told Noozhawk that the university is working with the residents displaced by the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
