Two people were trapped in the wreckage Thursday afternoon following a crash involving a vehicle pulling a travel trailer in the Lompoc Valley.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., emergency personnel including Santa Barbara County firefighters and California Highway Patrol officers were dispatched to the crash on southbound Highway 1 near the Constellation Road offramp in Vandenberg Village.

Two people — a male and a female — suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.

It took about 15 minutes to free the pair using the hydraulic “Jaws of Life” tool, Safechuck said.

A Calstar medical helicopter was dispatched to the Lompoc Airport, but was later canceled.

Instead, the patients were taken by AMR ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria.

One lane of Highway 1 in the area was closed for a time while crews assisted the patients and removed the vehicles.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation by the CHP.
