San Marcos teammates Leo Metzger and Graham Chapman each shot even-par 72 to share the first-round lead at the Channel League individual golf tournament on Monday at the Alisal Ranch Course in Solvang.

The top seven from the two-round event qualify for the CIF-SS Northern Regional Individual Champion at Los Robles Greens in Thousand Oaks on Monday, May 9.

All five San Marcos golfers made the cut for the second round.

Chapman recovered from bogeys on his first three holes to put himself in the title hunt.

“He has really come on strong for us the last couple of weeks,” said San Marcos coach Jeff Ashton.

Thomas MacIntosh of Santa Barbara and Jeffrey Forster of San Marcos are tied for third at 77.

Teddy Vigna of Dos Pueblos and Shams Jahangir-Arshad are both at 78. Vigna had three birdies in his round.

DP’s Scott Nighingale shot a 79, which included two birdies and an eagle on No. 14.

“He holed out his third shot from 70 yards,” said coach Kevin Ahlers.
