SBCC has a new women’s softball coach.
Tyler Heil is returning to the program where he served as an assistant for three years. He replaces Jasmyne Perry, who coached for three seasons. In her final season, she led the Vaqueros to their first winning campaign in six years, going 19-15 overall and 10-4 in the Western State Conference North.

Heil worked under former Vaqueros coach Paula Congleton from 2015-2017 and then joined her staff at the University of New Mexico. He was there from 2017-2021.
For the past two seasons, he served as the lead assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Central Florida. The Knights went 71-46 over his time with the program, including two NCAA tournament appearances.
“Softball has given me a ton of great experiences,” said Heil. “I’ve been all over the country, met great people, and even shared the field with the G.O.A.T., Patty Gasso (the Hall of Fame softball coach at Oklahoma, where she’s won eight NCAA titles). I’m grateful to be back in Santa Barbara, where my softball journey started, and use my position, knowledge and experience to help athletes develop and move on to four-year universities.”
Heil is looking for players to fill his roster for the 2025 season.
“We are looking to add depth to the team, specifically in the circle by adding one or two pitchers to the spring roster,” he said.
Interested players can contact Heil at his SBCC email address: tdheil@pipeline.sbcc.edu.
“We return a core group of starters who were very productive last season and added some players who excelled in their high school season last spring,” said Heil. “I’m excited to hit the ground running and begin working with them in January.”
