A strong performance Tyson Deveze and the Laguna Blanca boys volleyball team led the Owls to the championship at the Chadwick Tournament on Saturday.
The Owls defeated Bishop Montgomery in the title match after knocking off Culver City in the semifinals. They went 3-0 in pool play, beating Chadwick, Mary Star of the Sea and West Torrance.
Deveze was named the tournament MVP. He had 23 kills on a .429 hitting percentage, picked up 13 digs and served 15 aces on the day.
Kincade Avery was picked to the all-tournament team. He finished with 17 kills, six digs and five aces.
Setter Liam Knezevic dished out 69 assists to go with five digs, five kills and four aces.
Other standouts for the Owls were Thomas Couvillion (17 kills, nine digs, four aces) and Caden Weaver (20 digs, five aces and a 2.42 serve receive average).
“It was a good day of growth for our young team as we played a lot of volleyball,” said Laguna assistant coach Kat Niksto. “Tyson led the team offensively both with his attacking and strong consistent serving.”
The Owls jump right into Tri-Valley League play on Tuesday with a home match against. St. Bonaventure at 5 p.m.
