A project to reconstruct the bridges on Highway 101 at the interchange with State Route 135 in Los Alamos will begin on Monday, Feb. 1.
Motorists will encounter one-way reversing traffic control on State Route 135 between Main Street and San Antonio Boulevard, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and during the overnight hours 8 p.m.-6 a.m.
Tree work begins the week of Feb. 8, resulting in overnight lane closures on U.S. 101 at S.R. 135 in both directions, 7 p.m.-6 a.m. Monday through Friday and ramp closures 8 p.m.-6 a.m. Motorists may exit U.S. 101 in both directions at Cat Canyon Road.
This project will include intermittent full daytime and overnight closures of S.R. 135 for bridge demolition and the installation of girders. These closures are expected to take place in May, July and October this year, and January and April 2022.
A shuttle service will be provided for pedestrians, bicyclists and those using wheelchairs during the closure of S.R. 135. Traffic delays are not expected to exceed 15 minutes. Electronic message boards will be posted to advise all travelers about the lane closures and detours.
Contractor for this $10 million project is Cal Portland Construction of Santa Maria. It is scheduled to be completed by summer 2022.
