Cal State Fullerton jump on UC Santa Barbara starter Calvin Proskey for six runs in 1.1 innings, sparking the Titans to a 10-4 Big West baseball win on Saturday night at Goodwin Field.
Carter Johnstone hit a lead-off home run and Fullerton scored two more runs on a double and two singles. The Titans broke the game open with six runs in the second, highlighted by a grand slam from Max Ortega.
Van Froling and Frank Camarillo restored order for UCSB. Frohling pitched the third and fourth and Camarillo replaced him in the fifth. Fullerton scored its 10th run off Camarillo in the bottom of the seventh.
The Gauchos fall to 29-16 overall and 13-13 in the Big West. They currently stand in sixth place.
UCSB scored single runs in the fourth and seventh and added two more in the ninth.
Trey McCollum collected two of UCSB’s nine hits and drove in a run. He extended his on-base streak to 41 games, putting him five away from the program record. He also has a 17-game hitting streak.
The Gauchos will try to salvage the final game of the series on Sunday. Hudson Barrett is scheduled to start. He returned from an injury on Monday.
