The UCSB men’s swimming team took second place behind BYU at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in St. George Utah.
The Gauchos won 10 events and finished with 696 points. BYU captured the title with 830 points. Eight schools fielded men’s teams.
Hawaii won the women’s title with 773.5 points. UC San Diego was second, BYU third and UCSB fourth in the 10-team competition.
Matt Driscoll, Sean Gutowski and Kyle Brill were double individual winners for the UCSB men. Taber daCosta and Austin Sparrow each captured one title.
UCSB won three relays: the 200 free (1:18.45), 800 free (6:23.57) and 200 medley (1:25.77).
Driscoll was a double winner in the backstroke events, taking the 200 in 1:41.38 and 100 in 46.09.
Gutowski was the MPSF sprint king, sweeping the 100 freestyle in 43.47 and the 50 in 19.87.
Krill was the Gaucho ironman, winning the 400 IM (3:46.20) and 200 IM (1:44.99).
DaCosta won the 1650 (15:15.05) and Sparrow capturd the 500 free (4:21.25).
Also, Alec Cullen set a meet record in the prelims of the 200 breast, finishing in 1:55.17. The previous mark was 1:55.36.
In the relays, Driscoll, Cullen, Justin Wong and Gutowski made up the winning 200 medley quartet; Sparrow, Justin Wong, Brill and Dominic Falcon swam on the 800 free team; Driscoll, Zachary Tamusaitis, Henry Adamson and Gutowski were the members of the 200 free squad.
For the Gaucho women, Maelynn Lawrence was a double winner, taking the 200 fly (1:58.18) and 400 IM (4:19.16).
