Sixth-seeded UCSB was outscored 6-2 in the fourth period and suffered a 10-7 loss against No. 3 Long Beach State in a quarterfinal game of the Big West Women’s Water Polo Tournament at Campus Pool on Friday.

The Gauchos led 5-4 before The Beach erupted with four unanswered goals to take the lead for good.

Caitlyn Snyder scored with four minutes left to provide a late spark, and Annie Kuester gave the Gauchos some hope by scoring with just under two minutes to go. But The Beach closed out the game with goals from Amanda Price and Lara Luka.

Luka, Elisa Portillo and Rachael Kowalchick each scored two goals to lead The Beach.

Seven different Gauchos found the back of the net, and goalie Madison Walker made 15 saves. Snyder drew five exclusions and Juju Amaral and Drew Halvorson each had three steals for UCSB.

The Gauchos end their season at 18-11 while Long Beach State improves to 18-7.

The Beach will face No. 3 Hawai’i in one semifinal on Saturday at 1 p.m. The other semifinal has No. 4 UC San Diego playing top-seeded UC Irvine at 11 a.m.

The championship is Sunday at 12 p.m.
