Second-half substitutes Avery Standish and Hayden Halscheid scored goals to give the UC Santa Barbara women’s soccer team a 2-0 win over Canada’s Trinity Western in a preseason match Saturday at Harder Stadium.

After the Gauchos had two point-blank shots stopped by the Trinity Western goalkeeper, Standish, a sophomore, broke through in the 59th minute. She collected a deflected shot by Chayse Yu and put the ball away.

Halscheid, a senior, scored off a nice pass from Stella Etcheverry into the middle of the penalty area in the 86th minute.

The Gauchos outshot their opponents from British Columbia 15-4 overall and 9-1 in shots on goal.

UCSB begins its regular season on Wednesday at home against Loyola Marymount. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
