The UC Santa Barbara Women’s Soccer team walked away with a 1-1 draw against former conference foe UC Davis on Sunday night.
The Gaucho struck early, but the Aggies leveled the score halfway through the opening period, and the score would remain tied for the rest of the match.
UC Santa Barbara got on the board just 43 seconds into the match. A costly turnover by UC Davis turned into an opportunity for the Gauchos. Chayse Yu made a move around a defender and crossed the ball to the back post.
The ball found Delilah Vega-Aguilar, who headed it for her first goal as a Gaucho.
After the Gaucho goal, UC Davis started to go on the attack. Right after, they took two shots, putting some heat on Maddie Buckley. The Aggies maintained possession for most of the time after the initial goal.
They broke through in the 22nd minute to level the score at one goal apiece. The two teams did not find the back of the net again in the half and went to the break tied.
As the second half began, the Aggies controlled the pace and kept possession. 10 minutes in, UCD was awarded a corner and got two shots off that possession. The Aggies kept the pressure up, limiting UC Santa Barbara to just two shots in the second half.
In total, the Aggies outshot the Gauchos 14-6 in the match. Neither side was able to break through in the second half and ended the match with a 1-1 draw.
UC Santa Barbara will return home this upcoming week as they host North Dakota on Thursday, September 3 and North Dakota State on Sunday, September 6. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats available through ucsbgauchos.com/WSOCLiveStats.
