UC Santa Barbara Women’s Volleyball has cracked the AVCA/Taraflex Top 25 Coaches Poll for the first time since 2005.

With 76 total votes, the Gauchos slotted in as the 25th-best team in the nation in this week’s poll.

UCSB is currently 20-2 on the season and boasts a perfect Big West record of 10-0, which is the best start to a season since 2002 when the team ended 30-2 and 18-0 in conference action.

The Gauchos have beaten every Big West opponent once, including a five-set win over Hawai’i and a victory over Long Beach State on the road.

Michelle Ohwobete has led the way all season for UCSB offensively, as she currently leads the conference in kills (304) and points (355.5). Meanwhile, Andi Kreiling has anchored the defensive efforts with a conference-high 107 blocks and 1.41 blocks per set.

The first-place Gauchos will look to stay perfect in Big West play on the road this weekend against UC Irvine on Friday and Cal State Fullerton on Saturday.
