LAS CRUCES, N.M — The UCSB women’s volleyball team traveled to Las Cruces, N.M. and split matches with New Mexico State, winning Friday night 3-1 and losing Saturday morning by the same score.

The Gauchos prevailed in the first one, 25-23, 25-23, 16-25, 25-21, with help from junior Michelle Ohwobete’s third double-double of the season, with 12 kills and 10 digs to go along with a match-high three aces. She was also perfect on passing, converting all 20 serve receptions sent her way.

Tallulah Froley added 12 kills on a .258 hitting percentage, and Mehana Ma’a led the setting efforts with 21 assists and added five digs. Niableu Correal had four total blocks on the night including one solo.

The Aggies prevailed in the turnaround rematch Saturday morning, 25-20, 25-20, 16-25, 25-23.

Ohwobete led the way for the Gauchos with 11 kills and was a dig short of her second double-double of the weekend with nine. Tallulah Froley and Briana McKnight each sent down nine kills with McKnight swinging a potent .471 clip and adding 11 digs and a solo block. Froley had three total blocks, one of which was solo as well.

Mehana Ma’a led the setting efforts with 21 assists and added three digs.

Deni Wilson had nine kills on a very efficient .692 line and added three total blocks as well.

The Gauchos, 2-6, now head home for the Thunderdome Classic next weekend where they will host Georgetown for a pair of matches. Friday’s match marks the team’s home opener.
