UC Santa Barbara left-hander Hudson Barrett received his fifth Freshman All-American honor of the season on Wednesday, earning the honor from Baseball America.
Barrett has now earned Freshman All-America honors from four of the five major collegiate baseball publications — Collegiate Baseball News, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, D1Baseball, and Baseball America — as well as Perfect Game. The American College Baseball Coaches Association, the fifth major publication, does not award Freshman All-America honors.
The standout rookie reliever was one of 25 semifinalists for the College Baseball Foundation’s Pitcher of the Year Award, one of just two freshmen to make the list. He was named The Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year and a First Team all-conference selection. He was also named to the NCBWA’s All-America Third Team and the ABCA All-West Region First Team.
Barrett led all qualified Division-I freshmen and finished fifth in the country with a 1.92 regular-season ERA, finishing third among D-I freshmen with 82 strikeouts. He also led the Gauchos with six saves and finished tied for the team lead with five wins.
