UC Santa Barbara senior goalkeeper Leroy Zeller has been named to the United Soccer Coaches’ Goalkeepers to Watch List for the upcoming season.

Zeller is one of two 2022 All-Far West Region honorees to be named to the list, joining for Washington’s Sam Fowler. A total of six goalkeepers were recognized.

Zeller, a native of Zulpich, Germany, enters the 2023 campaign as one of UCSB’s most successful goalkeepers. He ranks seventh in program history with 16 career shutouts. He notched seven of those clean sheets last season and was honored as Big West Co-Goalkeeper of the Year and All-Big West First Team honors.

The Players to Watch list is compiled by United Soccer Coaches’ Division I All-America Committee and features players who received All-Region and All-America honors in 2022. The complete Goalkeepers to Watch list is available by clicking here.

United Soccer Coaches will announce their Defenders, Midfielders, and Forwards to Watch over the course of the next two weeks, ahead of the start of the 2023 soccer season.

The Gauchos’ official season opener is Aug. 25 against Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. at Harder Stadium.

They will host a pair of exhibition games, on Aug. 13 against LMU and Aug. 19 against new Division 2 program Westmont. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.
