Firefighters were called out early Tuesday for a second fire within hours at a residence in Vandenberg Village.

Crews responded at 12:45 a.m. to the single-family home on the 200 block of Orion Avenue, said Capt. Scott Safechuck of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Upon arrival, they observed heavy flames and smoke coming from the structure, which had been divided into three separate living areas, Safechuck said.

It took firefighters about 90 minutes to knock down the flames, Safechuck said.

The first fire at the location was reported at 12:45 p.m. Monday.

No one was inside the home at that time, and that fire was knocked down in about 15 minutes.

No injuries were reported in either incident, but six residents have been displaced by the fires, Safechuck said.

They were being assisted by the American Red Cross.

“Fire investigators have determined that this morning’s response for an active fire at the residence was a separate ignition in another part of the structure — not a rekindle or an extension of the original fire,” Safechuck said.

“A rekindle has been ruled out.”

He added that arson is not suspected in the second blaze, but said he could not comment on whether investigators believe the first fire was deliberately set.

Both fires remain under investigation.
