A crash involving a sedan and a truck pulling a trailer led to a fire, left three people injured and prompted the temporary closure of Highway 1 Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 2 p.m., emergency personnel from the Vandenberg Fire Department, Santa Barbara County Fire Department and American Medical Response were dispatched to the crash on northbound Highway 1, north of Firefighter Road, said Karen Cruz-Orduña, a County Fire spokeswoman.
The truck with the trailer became engulfed in flames due to the crash with the sedan, she added.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which sent up a tall column of black smoke visible in the area.
Highway 1 was closed in both directions for a time due to the crash and investigation.
Two people in the truck were transported to the hospital by ground ambulance with minor injuries, Cruz-Orduña said. The sedan’s driver also had minor injuries but refused medical care, she added.
Vandenberg firefighters remained on scene to work on removing the debris on the road, Cruz-Orduña said.
Officers from the California Highway Patrol were spearheading the investigation, which included reports that a sedan was swerving before the crash.
