A vehicle that veered off Harris Grade Road sparked a fire that spread to nearby vegetation on Wednesday.
Emergency personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire and Lompoc Fire departments responded at 5:30 p.m. to the incident on northbound Harris Grade Road, a two-lane route linking the Lompoc and Santa Maria valleys. The incident was north of Rucker Road, fire Capt. Mike Gray said.
The fire ignited by the crash generated significant smoke on the hillside with reports that the flames jumped the road.
A male was seen climbing out of the vehicle and laying on the shoulder, according to emergency dispatch reports.
Harris Grade Road was closed for a time Wednesday while emergency crews were at the scene.
Additional details weren’t immediately available.
