A woman was taken to the hospital Friday night after crashing her vehicle into a duplex on Santa Barbara’s Westside.

Firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched at 8:51 p.m. to the incident on the 600 block of West Canon Perdido Street.

The woman was driving a Ford Explorer southbound on San Andres Street when she reportedly ran a stop sign where it intersects with West Canon Perdido Street, according to Battalion Chief Rich Ames of the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.

Witnesses told Noozhawk that the Explorer jumped the far side curb, crossed the front yard and slammed into the structure.

The vehicle ended up about 15 feet inside the living room on one side of the duplex, Ames said.

Fortunately, that unit was unoccupied at the time, so no one inside the structure was hurt.

The Explorer’s driver was injured, Ames said, and was taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
