The Ventura County Library is partnering with Interface Children & Family Services to present a series of presentations during Human Trafficking Prevention and Awareness Month in January.
Programs will be at the Ojai Library, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14; Fillmore Library, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21; and E.P. Foster Library, 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28. The E.P. Foster presentation will also include a screening of the documentary film “Trafficked In America.”
Labor Trafficking 101, a community awareness presentation, is designed to meet a set of learning objectives that include defining human trafficking and labor trafficking, identifying helpful services and resources, and learning about labor trafficking along the Central Coast.
Participants will also learn how to recognize individuals who may be at risk for labor trafficking and identify indicators of labor trafficking.
The film “Trafficked In America” involves victims who are deceived by false promises and lured or forced into situations where they work under deplorable conditions with little or no pay.
In the U.S., traffickers compel victims to engage in commercial sex and work in various industries and sectors. Sex trafficking is the most common type of trafficking in the U.S., and child sex trafficking has been reported in all 50 states.
Interface Children & Family Services is focused on ensuring every child, teen, parent and adult in the community has every opportunity to thrive.
Founded in 1973, Interface a nonprofit provider of social services, including mental health and trauma treatment; youth crisis ad homeless services; domestic violence and child abuse prevention; human trafficking prevention and intervention; and justice services.
