The city of Ventura is seeking applicants for its Arts and Culture Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, Water Commission, and Design Review Committee. The positions provide the City Council with recommendations on related projects and programs.
 
“Civic engagement is the foundation of local government,” said Mayor Joe Schroeder. “When individuals contribute their time and energy to address common issues and pursue common goals, they strengthen the fabric of our community.”  
 
Vacancies occur either by the expiration of a term or resignations during the year. Per San Buenaventura Ordinance 2019-003, no citizen may serve on more than one committee, commission, or board. Dual appointments are not permitted.   
 
There is one unscheduled vacancy for the Arts and Culture Commission with a term that extends to June 2026. The seven-member commission meets the second Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. to advise and make recommendations on matters about arts, culture, and cultural tourism in the city of Ventura. Applications are due by May 13.
 
The Parks and Recreation Commission has two vacancies with terms that extend to June 2028. The seven-member commission meets at 4 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month to assist in recommending and promoting public parks and recreation programs, facilities, and events.

The Parks and Recreation Commission also assists in the preparation of and annual review and revision of long-range plans for public parks and recreational facilities and programs. Applications are due by May 24.
 
There are two vacancies, one professional and one non-professional, on the Water Commission with terms that extend to June 2028. The seven-member commission meets at 5:30 p.m. the fourth Monday of the month to review and make advisory recommendations regarding water rates, water resources infrastructure projects in the five-year capital improvement program, water supply options, and other water resource issues. Applications are due by May 24.
 
There are three vacancies on the Design Review Committee with terms that extend to June 2028. The five-member committee meets at 6 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month to review, consider, approve, or deny applications for approval of design of architectural, landscaping, aesthetics for public and private projects, applications for sign variances, and proposed design elements or components of specific plans, historic districts, or other special areas. Applications are due by May 24.
