Heritage rose expert Gregg Lowery will address the topic Vintage Roses! at the upcoming meeting of the Santa Barbara Rose Society, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church fellowship hall, 909 N. La Cumbre Road.

Lowery is curator of The Friends of Vintage Roses collection of more than 4,000 rose varieties in Sebastopol, CA. These rare old roses formed the basis for his nursery Vintage Gardens.

In 2012, Lowery handed over his extensive rare rose collection, his passion for 40 years, to The Friends of Vintage Roses, a nonprofit group dedicated to preserving these roses for their educational, cultural, and scientific value.

Lowery has served as vice president of the Heritage Rose Foundation, and he developed and co-edited the foundation’s journal Rosa Mundi, 2005 through 2014.

A prolific writer and speaker on heritage roses, Lowery has spoken on the history and future of heritage roses around the world, most notably in Perth, Australia; in Lyon, France; in Sakura, Japan; Dunedin, New Zealand; and, in 2016, at the WFRS conference in Beijing, China.

As a garden designer Lowery has created more than 100 gardens in California and across the U.S.
