The Santa Barbara Fire Department is conducting a study to determine the types of calls and risks it encounters, as well as the department’s adequacy to meet those needs.

Known as a Community Risk Assessment/Standards of Cover Deployment Analysis, the study will examine services the Fire Department provides the community, and consider whether it is meeting the public’s expectations.

The study is conducted by Wyoming-based AP Triton, an industry consultant specializing in fire department master planning and EMS deployment. Fire Department staff has spent months preparing data for AP Triton’s analysis.

The study will review the Fire Department’s response data; private ambulance response data; department staffing, apparatus and station conditions; water supply systems; and the city’s unique hazards and infrastructure.

The community is invited to participate in a Town Hall webinar about the study, 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 4. Fire Chief Chris Mailes will host the meeting, with AP Triton’s consultants moderating and giving an overview of the project. At the meeting’s conclusion, the consultants will launch a survey to provide further opportunity for thoughts from the community.
