Braylon Katers accounted for 18 points to power the Bishop Diego boys volleyball team to a sweep over Cate in a Tri-Valley League match.
Liam Flood scored 10 points and Henri Benoit provided some tough serves, took big swings and blocked a few balls as a utility player.
“We had to make some adjustments to our lineup due to spring break travel plans, and I think the guys responded well,” said coach Dillan Bennett. “In fact, we may continue with the lineup we used tonight after a few practices this week before hosting Laguna Blanca on Thursday night.”
Bennett praised the fight in Cate.
“They’ve been banged up by injuries, and their coaching staff does a great job of coaching up whoever is available. They had us on the ropes a few times tonight. I’m pleased with how our group responded.”
The Cardinals improve to 19-10 overall, 7-2 in the TVL.
Santa Barbara 3, Pacifica 0
The Dons still had enough in the tank to post a 25-14, 25-22, 25-22 sweep over the Tritons in a Channel League match.
“After a long weekend of playing some tough matches (in the Karch Kiraly Tournament of Champions), our boys were able to pull out the win and beat a scrappy Pacifica team, who deserves a lot of credit for how well they play,” said coach Chad Arneson.
The Dons improve to 21-8 overall and 12-1 in league. They play at Rio Mesa on Tuesday.
Beach Volleyball
Santa Ynez Beach Volleyball has clinched a league title with a 2-1 win over Arroyo Grande on a blustery day at Pismo Beach.
“We did struggle a little bit with our wind game, but were able to line things out when it counted the most,” said coach Melissa Rogers. “The duel came down to our 3s duo of Hannah Allen and Cailin Glover who came out on top in 3 games. These young ladies have developed into a formidable squad. I am so proud of the progress that they have made over this season.”
