The Dos Pueblos girls got some fresh wins on the sand on the way to a 4-1 win at Oxnard Thursday, improving their record to 6-1.
At No. 1, veterans Portia Sherman and Chloe Hoffman continued their dominating ways, winning 21-8, 21-12.
From there, there was some successful personnel shifting.
“I was excited to see some first time varsity winners,” Charger coach Mike Fitzgerald said.
“Eliana Frankenfield and Lena Todd swept their opponents at the 5s. Malia Brofferio and Lucy Speier swept the 3s. It was their first time they had played together and it was the first time Malia has played on the 3s.
“It’s not easy to win at the Varsity level and as you move up in the pairings the level of play increases at each step. I was proud of the way the younger players competed in tough conditions.”

Carpinteria had 13 aces, “but unfortunately, we also had 14 missed serves,” Caughey said. “It seems the ‘siren’ of aces are getting the best of some of our players. We’ll continue putting emphasis on serving tough, but with more emphasis on serving the ball in the court during our practices.”
Carpinteria plays Saturday in the Cardinal Classic at Bishop Diego.
