The Lompoc Recreation Division will offer training this summer that will enable participants to become American Red Cross-certified lifeguards.

The Lompoc Aquatic Center’s Lifeguard Training Course offers classroom activities, online e-learning, and hands-on practice that allow participants to gain the knowledge and learn the skills needed to work as a lifeguard.

The Lompoc Aquatic Center’s comprehensive and intensive lifeguard-training course covers accident prevention, lifeguarding techniques, emergency systems, water-rescue skills, Basic Life Support (CPR/AED), and first aid.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants receive American Red Cross certification in lifeguarding, CPR, and first aid.

Training will take place at the Lompoc Aquatic Center, 207 W. College Ave.

The training is open to those ages 15 and older; a pre-course will be held 8:30 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 26. Instructional dates are Sunday, June 27, and Saturday and Sunday, July 10-11, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Course fee is $125.

Deadline to register is Friday, June 18. Since the class is presented in a blended-learning format, a valid email address is required at registration. Participants will receive an email with information on how to access the online component upon registration.
