A High Wind Warning will be in effect this weekend for much of Santa Barbara County, according to the National Weather Service.

The warning — calling for northwest winds of 30-40 mph, with gusts of 60-70 mph — will be in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday until 7 p.m. Sunday.

Isolated gusts of 80 mph are possible, the NWS said.

“Damaging winds will blow down large objects such as trees and power lines,” according to the warning. “Power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.”

A Beach Hazards Alert also will be in effect — from Saturday morning through late Sunday night.

Forecasters were warning of dangerous rip currents and breaking waves due to elevated surf, and people were warned to remain out of the ocean, or to stay near occupied lifeguard towers.

There is a 30% chance of light showers Saturday night, mainly after 10 p.m., with rainfall totals of less than a tenth of an inch expected.

Sunny skies should return Sunday through Wednesday, with daytime highs in the upper-50s and low-60s. Overnight lows in the low-40s are expected.

A chance of additional rainfall returns next week.
